As part of our ongoing efforts to refine and optimize the MADS® technology, Madsnor founder Sverre Nesvåg recently visited Stavanger University Hospital (SUS) for a hands-on meeting with the interventional radiologist Knut Olav Lende Sandve.
The meeting took place directly in an operating room setting, offering a unique opportunity to observe the environment in which MADS® will eventually be used. The discussion focused on how deep-seated abscesses are currently drained using conventional catheters and what the clinical workflow looks like from diagnosis to intervention.
The radiologist provided valuable insight in to how ultrasound imaging is utilized to guide catheter placement and monitor the drainage process. He also shared his perspective on the limitations of current technology — especially when it comes to maintaining consistent drainage and preventing re-infection.
– This endorsement from an experienced practitioner further strengthens our confidence in the project, and offers critical input for further development, says Sverre Nesvåg, CEO at Madsnor.
Sverre Nesvåg also gained important feedback regarding catheter design, including recommendations on thickness, flexibility, and how it should interact with surrounding tissue to ensure optimal performance and safety.
– These kinds of clinical insights are crucial as Madsnor prepares for prototype testing and clinical validation. We are deeply grateful to SUS and their staff for sharing their time, expertise and enthusiasm for improving patient care, says Nesvåg.
It’s about time we see innovation in this field. MADS® offers a completely new approach, and I believe it holds great promise, says Knut Olav Lende Sandve, radiologist at SUS.
