About Sverre Nesvåg

Sverre Nesvåg is educated as a social scientist with a major in social anthropology from the University of Bergen. He defended his doctoral thesis (dr.philos.) at the University of Oslo in 2005.

His entire professional career has been within the field of substance use problems. He has worked as a researcher/research director at Rogalandsforskning (now part of Norce), as a researcher and director at the treatment center Rogaland A-senter, and has held a position as Professor II at the University of Stavanger.

Since 2007, he was employed as research director responsible for establishing and developing the Centre for Alcohol & Drugs Research at Stavanger University Hospital (KORFOR), turning it into one of the largest and most influential research environments in Norway within this field. He has chaired and participated in several public committees and has received multiple awards for his research contributions.

Sverre retired in 2024. However, a few years earlier, he had started developing an idea for a more effective treatment of abscesses, based on his own patient experience. Together with surgeon Tore Tholfsen, he further developed the idea, and in the same year as his retirement, they established the company Madsnor AS. He quickly brought in other individuals with both medical and commercial expertise, much in the same way he had previously built competent research teams.

Sverre himself became CEO of the company, and working on the development and commercialization of Madsnor has become an important part of an active "retirement life."

Roles:

• CEO and founder of Madsnor
• Former research director at Stavanger University Hospital (SUS)
